Full Home Remodel in Somerset

A full home remodel of a 2,900 sq ft home built in 1979 with an extension of the existing dining room, an existing home with 4 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms on a half-acre land in Bellevue, WA.

Project Name: Somerset

  • Location: Bellevue, WA
  • Home Size: 2,900 sq ft
  • Type of Project: Full home remodel
  • Budget Range: 500K – 550K
  • Timeline: 5-month construction phase

This project involved a complete home renovation designed to enhance layout, comfort, and visual impact throughout the property. The main floor underwent a spacious kitchen redesign, and the master bedroom was upgraded with a feature accent wall and a fully renovated master bathroom. The master bath included a soaking Jacuzzi, a walk-in shower, and a double vanity, all tiled from floor to ceiling.

New plush carpeting and elegant laminate flooring were installed throughout the home. A black-coated aluminum railing was added, along with two fireplaces finished in natural stone, creating striking focal points in the living and party rooms.

The dining room was reimagined with a new sliding door leading to the deck and large picture windows to increase natural light and highlight views of the greenbelt hillside in the backyard. An art wall feature was incorporated and complemented by a pendant light centered above the dining table. The powder room was redesigned with a focus on both style and comfort.

The kitchen featured sleek black matte cabinets with scratch-resistant finishes, decorative lighting, warm natural wood trims, and a microwave drawer integrated into the spacious island. The space was completed with elegant 3 cm black quartz countertops with white veining.

In the basement, a new bathroom was added. The project also included replacing the home’s windows and sliding doors, including a 12-foot four-panel sliding door in the kitchen that opened onto a 650-square-foot deck wrapping around three sides of the house. The outdoor living space included a covered BBQ pergola extending from the front to the back of the property.

Exterior upgrades consisted of James Hardie cement siding with cedar accents, new glass railings, and a modern double garage door with smoky glass panels. A new heat pump system, including air conditioning, was also installed to improve overall home performance and comfort.

The clients wanted to give their entire house a fresh, modern look that better reflects their lifestyle, all while staying within their budget. They were excited about updating the house’s aesthetic to make it more comfortable and stylish.

This house hasn’t been updated since it was built. It has old wood and tile flooring, along with dirty carpets throughout. There were many issues with the subfloor and moisture problems in the bathroom. The plumbing and electrical systems are outdated and obviously not up to code. The kitchen cabinets are deteriorating, and the house siding has water damage. The rooms are over 30 years old, and the chimney requires repair. The existing HVAC system is outdated and requires replacement.

Challenges

The house had quite a bit of moisture and water damage that needed attention. The hill behind the house brought a lot of water from the rains into the crawl space, so we installed a sump pump system to prevent water from damaging the foundation over time.
