  • Open-concept main floor created by removing a large structural wall
  • Custom two-tone kitchen with light wood cabinetry and a blue island
  • Added storage through a large pantry and oversized double-sided island
  • Fluted panels, arches, and decorative shelving for a contemporary design feature
  • Brighter, cleaner finish with refinished floors, fireplace, ceiling, and modern lighting

In this project, we removed a large structural wall between the kitchen, living room, and dining room. Portions of the walls were vaulted ceilings, while others were dropped ceilings; all were removed to create a more open floor plan for the main level. We adopted a contemporary interior design to better match the overall aesthetic of the house.

Custom cabinetry in two tones was installed, featuring light wood tones for most of the kitchen and blue cabinets on the island, complemented by brass hardware and fixtures. To enhance spatial perception, wall cabinets were removed, making the space feel larger and taller, especially since the ceiling height was 96 inches.

To address storage needs, we added a large pantry and a sizable island with cabinets on both sides, providing ample storage space. Decorative shelves were incorporated to display art, and fluted panels were used on the built-in hood and dining table wall to connect the two rooms aesthetically. An architectural element was introduced through the use of arches. The kitchen features Kohler fixtures, quartz countertops from MSI, and the hardwood floor was patched and refinished with a light whitewashed tone.

A new black metal railing was installed for a modern touch, and the fireplace brick was refinished to achieve a seamless, clean appearance, making the room appear larger and more contemporary. Removing dark wood panels from the ceiling significantly brightened the space and contributed to a more modern aesthetic.

The flooring continued onto the stairs leading to the basement. Modern pendant lighting was installed to enhance illumination. Additionally, two sliding doors were added in the living and dining rooms to connect these spaces with the outdoor deck and backyard.

The clients desired to give their entire residence a contemporary overhaul that better reflects their lifestyle, all while staying within their financial constraints.

They were enthusiastic about enhancing the house’s aesthetic to increase comfort and style.

This house has not been updated since its construction. It features old wooden cabinets that are on the verge of falling apart and dark wood paneling on the ceiling, which make the room feel more confined and darker.

With the dining room and kitchen located close to each other, the entire main floor feels small and lacks functionality for a family of five with three children.
